Knowledge of mathematics helps plants survive the night.
But how?
Scientists after studying Arabidopsis, a member of mustard
family have found that plants perform calculations on complex mathematical equations throughout the night to
avoid starvation until sunrise when they can depend on the sunlight for food. During daytime starch is produced by plants through photosynthesis. This starch is essential for their survival. During night they divide the remaining starch depending on the time left for the daylight and consume it appropriately. They do this precise calculations several times throughout night to avoid starvation.
In case the starch gets over before daylight they would stop growing and struggle to recover even after hours of daylight. So this is the reason behind their tough survival all through the night.
