Mind-controlled smartphone & tablet- Samsung's future tech

Several years have passed and we witnessed the change in the way in which human interacts with the phones from a keypad to touch and now to gesture. There are several firms who have tried to come up with their unique design and created a better way to interact. Among them Samsung, a very popular South Korean firm is the one who after rolling out the devices controlled through touch, voice command, gesture and eye movement with a smart pause feature(introduced in Galaxy S4) is now planning for a mind-controlled device. The Samsung's researchers at Emerging Technology Lab with Roozbeh Jafari's team at University of Texas in Dallas are conducting different experiments on this project. User has to wear a EEG (electroencephalogram) cap containing wet electrodes to carry brain signals. It's called wet electrode since there is a requirement to place a liquid at the contact place with the scalp. The researchers after many experiments and monitoring the signal pattern in brain when a similar visual pattern is showed to the user and have found that user could select an app to launch by concentrating on the app icon which is made to blink with a distinct frequency.

The user's thought will be processed and appropriate actions like selecting app, playing music, checking mails, turning off and even make calls. This will surely help the ones with mobility issues.

But to make the device accurate the Samsung is trying its best to broaden the ways through which user interacts with the devices. They have announced the start of success in this project and report that they were 80 to 95% accurate in selection of an app every five second. So we can hope to see this device out in market soon creating a smarter interactive future.
