INTRODUCTION TO ROBOTICS

From “Star Wars” to “Wall-E”,”Robocop” to “I-Robot” everything had one common mesmerizing thing in it. In some it looked like humans, spoke like them, ran around even till the extent of having emotions in them. Technically they are all called as humanoids.

Male: - Android
Female:-Gynoid

So let’s now see what do we mean by a robot and how do we go about building it.

What is a robot??
There is no single correct definition for a robot typically it is considered to have following characteristics in them
  •    Electromechanical device
  •    Ability to interact
  •    Ability to perform dedicated tasks
  •    Automatic, semi-automatic, manual control

What are the types of robot??

We classify them into
  • manual or autonomous
  • Wired or wireless

Classification based on field of application is also present

Applications of robots
  • Industry
  • Medical
  • Home
  • Military
  • Space and research

Basic parts in a robot

Like humans robots need certain basic things to name few

they are

Humans
Robots
Eye
Sensors
Body
Chassis
Legs
Wheel
Muscles
Motor
Brain
Controller
Heart
Power supply

And so on…

Basic things required

  •   Bread boards
  •   Multimeter
  •   Cutter
  •   Microcontroller boards
  •   Solder kit
  •   Sensors
  •   Actuators(Motors )

It would be useful to know  few shops in your place which
would supply these things or few online sites which would deliver it to your door step

With this we would have assembled basic things required to
construct a bot but this wouldn’t give us any knowledge of the electronics related to it. It is of great importance for us to know the requirement of the bot and then choose the controller, actuators, sensors etc. Some commonly used parts are

Controllers
  •    Arduino
  •    Atmel
  •    8051
  •    Avr

Actuators
  • Stepper
  • Servo
  • Dc

Batteries
  • Lead acid
  • Ni-cd
  • Zinc carbon

We will look into all these in the next update...
